A world where everyone tells the truth. Can you imagine it? Cinema introduces “The invention of lying”, a film that narrates the origin of the first lie in a country where people just do not know how to lie.

Relax, it’s the ultimate  fiction ever. At most we live in a world where people do not know how to tell the truth, but that’s another story.

Instead, in the scene, not only people cannot lie, but they are now used to take everything they see and hear as the absolute truth. It is simply not possible that someone is lying, they do not even know what a lie is.

Mark Bellison, however, discovers the fascinating power of the lie when, by chance, asks the cashier of a bank to hand over his $ 800, instead of the 300 actually deposited into the account. The cashier, who takes no notice of Mark’s balance on the computer screen, believes him, and without batting an eyelid he has got the loot. Mark lights up and understands incredulously that anything he will say from that moment on will be believed. Bingo!!!

You can imagine how the plot would develop during the film. The thing that surprised me was that, before taking advantage of it for himself, he uses it to improve other people’s life.

In a time when the media (including the web), has great power and great influence over people, seem to exploit this capability to fuel conspiracy and catastrophic expectations, a film, instead, shows us the miracles of expectations. People re-flourish, starting to believe in themselves and in the possibility to attain happiness when they have expectations for the future.

If only someone like Mark could whisper in the ears of the people to expect something better from themselves.

If someone, driven by positive intentions, tells  a “white lie,” he or she is doing it to see in his or her faded friend’s eyes a ray of hope.

Inevitably, something good would happen.

Unfortunately, out of the screen, the subject is reversed.

You cannot do

It’s not the moment

It is not for you

It will not work

It will get worse

These are all predictions of the future that work unconsciously on people’s mood, until they become discouraged and unable to act. It is here that people learn how to lie. People tell lies when no one believes in them. Especially when they first do not believe in themselves.

So they invent a story to believe in, and they  “play it” so well that you almost get deceived by it.

But no! There is magnificence in each and every of  us. We just need more confidence. We need truth.

Over time I learned a great lesson: if you are moved by the sincere desire to support others, reminding them to observe their inner light, you’ll see a lot of people drawing closer to whisper to your ear that you’re a star that shines and that the future awaits you, full of hope.
